Reporting Blackwell Table of Contents Errors

April 2008

OhioLINK subscribes to a catalog enrichment service from Blackwell's which adds contents information in 97x fields to both the central site record and (when it's working properly) to local catalog records as well. These fields are governed by different rules than those that govern the rest of the bibliographic records in the central catalog.

The 97x fields are added directly to the central catalog record. They are not affected by the ownership of the bibliographic record. The contents fields are passed from the central site to local sites, so the process is the opposite of the normal contribution process.

The most common errors that occur in these contents fields are misspellings and mismatches where the fields are attached to the wrong record. In both cases, identifying the owner of the record and asking that institution to correct the problem is not effective. Instead, the best thing to do is to contact Meg Spernoga meg@ohiolink.edu, directly or via the errors list. She also cannot fix the problem, but she will contact Blackwell's and III so that they can fix it. In theory, the record will be fixed with the next Table of Contents delivery, but it is nice to send notification to the errors list as well, particularly as we have had some delivery disruptions.
